Grade 4 Barred Owls
The fourth-grade teaching team, with a combined 89 years of educational experience includes Mrs. Beganny, Ms. Pfeffer, Mrs. Davidson, Mrs. Raio, and Mrs. Radasch. Together they plan and implement a year full of challenging learning opportunities.
Many groups partner with the 4th grade outside of the school including the Litchfield Conservation Commission, Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed, Strawbery Banke Museum, and Theater at Monmouth. These partnerships lead to many fun and educational off-campus field trip including Colby Art Museum, The Portland Symphony, two visits to Smithfield Plantation for Forestry day and History day.
Math learning targets include multiplication, division, geometry, and fractions. Writing focuses on Narrative, Opinion and Informational formats. Reading targets include increasing fluency, decoding, and comprehension to a fourth-grade level. The focus for nonfiction is reading to learn, and we focus on discussions around story elements, theme, and reading strategies around fictional text. Grade level science units include Forces that Change the Earth as well as Structures and Functions. Geography focus includes a focus on Maine Studies and culminates with the Annual Maine State Float Parade in June.
We are excited to begin another year with these fabulous fourth-graders.
